screws and requires no tools. Getting started with the first three parts was a bit confusing for me, but once I figured it out the rest of the build was quick and easy. There are thick rubber rings on each of the raised tabs to secure the shelves, but they're solid and sturdy, and not as crappy as they look. The looks (to my taste) are okay and certainly manages my desk with paper, file and device clutter much better than my plastic and metal file/paper holders. I can fit my 15 inch Chromebook on it without worrying about it falling, lots of notepads, address books, planners, memo pads, mini fans, other electronics and more. No rough edges to cause splinters or snagging. I am very happy with the reliability and functionality of this file organizer and now I can access what I need in a much easier way.
