I bought this knowing that Dolby Atmos and DTS:X are fake and simulated, not real. Why? Because you can't beat a $398 Dolby Atmos soundbar. And my Sony TV so I wanted a pair. And the advertised 7.1.2 upscaling. Also, no WiFi! So my rating? - I was watching Dolby Vision and Dolby Atmos content at high volume. The vertical effect is absolutely 0, and a regular 5.1 or 7.1 soundbar would be better. The HDMI that came with the panel cannot carry Dolby Vision or ARC, I had to use my good quality replacement HDMI cable. I suggest you do the same to unlock its full potential. This soundbar can decode Dolby Atmos and dts:x and simulate vertical sound through 3 front speakers. This soundbar does not have upward-firing speakers like other soundbars. That's what's needed for a true Atmos effect, but Sony has said it can do it with software magic, but let's just say with some credible, intelligent marketing, haha. It can still decode those formats and try to mimic Atmos and you'll get Sony! Overall, this is a decent soundbar with the mistaken belief that you have a Dolby Atmos soundbar and a high-end 7.1.2. Do you feel atmosphere? nope I heard it all comes from the bar. There is no surround sound effect, except for a very small number of effects. Why did I still get it? It's enough for my small room and it's still capable of 4K HDR (Dolby Vision, HDR10 and Gamma) and better than my TV's speakers, so it worked for me. If you have a big room or want a real one, buy the Sony 7.1 for $1,300. 2 Atmos Sound Bar or Yamaha 7.1.2 Atmos for $1500 or other brands. Something that has dedicated speakers for Atmos. Update: Dolby Atmos effects are also noticeable on Dolby Digital Plus content, so this works. You need to check what signal the soundbar is receiving. For example, the Netflix app on the TV received a DD+ signal, but the Apple TV was unable to transmit the same signal.
