Review on πŸ”§ GTE TOOLS - LugStrong 26-inch Universal Compact Lug Wrench Set, Super-Strong Tire Iron & Lug Nut Remover - Increased Torque for Unstuck Road Situations! by Mark Quarterman

Revainrating 5 out of 5

I now have one in every car - an ESSENTIAL tool for me when changing a wheel on the go!

I've found that most repair shops and tire shops use pneumatic wrenches to tighten nuts. Normally I wouldn't know or be concerned, but recently I became the victim of a pothole on the freeway and was unable to loosen the lug nuts with the wrench that came with my 2011 Volvo S40. I'm very capable of replacing a flat tire but I felt helpless waiting for AAA to show up (over an hour). I've been told that tire shops are reluctant to torque lug nuts to published torque specs as they may loosen up a bit with riding over the next few days and will need to be retightened (or at least checked) - some say it's even more likely with aluminum wheels (I I honestly don't know for sure). When a young man from a nearby AAA repair shop showed up, his cordless impact wrench couldn't loosen a single nut. With a tension tube, he used his traditional square wrench to loosen the nuts. I didn't want to feel that helpless feeling again, so I googled and thought about getting my own four-sided key and cheat whistle. That's when I came across the LugStrong wrench. This is by far the best wrench I've ever used. High-quality workmanship and impressive design. As soon as the LugStrong arrived I tested it on a couple of nuts on my Volvo and although some of them were very tight I was able to loosen them with ease. The stem is cleverly engineered to hold the sliding crossbar in place, whether it's the extreme end for added mechanical advantage (rather than a pickup tube) or the middle position for turning a wrench. Best use for 19mm (3/4") and 21mm nuts. It also includes a 17mm socket and a 1/2" socket for standard sockets to accept *any* size nuts, but these two options don't offer the same leverage you might need for stubbornly tightened nuts - so keep that in mind Bonus: one rod tucks into the other for super compact storage and comes with a sturdy storage case.

Pros
  • High marks for grip and durability from testers
Cons
  • Slightly dented
