This was the most difficult purchase of my entire camera system. Same goes for ball heads and many options from $20 to $1500. I also have a camera rig that weighs about 12 pounds when everything is caged (long lens, ninja recorder, zoom recorder, camera with battery and cage). Most ball heads in this price range can't handle that much weight when moving or tilting a tripod, despite being rated at 50 pounds. I've tried so many ball heads but the Sirui K40 is by far the most durable and reliable of them all. When tightening, the rig does not move at all. The only thing I don't really like or am not used to yet is the screw in the main cocking knob, which is adjusted to get the perfect frictional tension when you want to move the ball. READ the instructions carefully to learn how to use them. I would prefer a ball head with a separate friction knob as my rig is set to different weights for different purposes, but you'll be fine if your system weight never changes. The big problem with most cameras and systems is that there is never one solution that has everything you need, everything requires a compromise, but this ball head at this price point for the weight it can actually handle is a good one Business. . It absolutely is stronger than the $600 Really Right Stuff ball head and being able to carry the weight of my rig is far more important than spending big bucks on the big names. I will be happy to get 5 years of this ball head and it will be worth every penny.
