These rugs work great with vinyl! However, when I used cardboard, the more complicated cuts got shredded. At first I couldn't figure out what was wrong. I changed the blade, tried a different setting, tried different cardboard weights. Then I realized the only difference was the carpet. When I compared them, this mat is SLIGHTLY thinner than the Cricut mats. When I restarted my project with the Cricut mat, the cutting went fine. So I think they're great for vinyl. I didn't notice any difference in machine performance; but I'll stick with (no pun intended!) CRICUT mats for cardboard.
