Review on Potensic Upgraded A20 Mini Drone for Kids and Beginners, Easy to Fly Indoor Outdoor RC Helicopter Quadcopter with Auto Hovering, Headless Mode, Remote Control, and 3 Batteries - Ideal for Boys and Girls by Jessica Gibson

Revainrating 5 out of 5

This is the perfect first indoor quadcopter/drone!

OVERVIEW: Robust and protected propeller, making it safe for training. Altitude Hold is a great feature for first-time flyers. Ideal for young children and adults who are children at heart. UPDATE: To avoid an uncontrolled climb, DO NOT use the auto launch button. Instead, pull both knobs down and in until the motors start spinning. I also bought a UDI 46 which is the exact same item (but blue) which is sometimes cheaper. DETAILED REVIEW: Flight: With altitude hold, this quadcopter hovers like the firefly it is named after. You'll need to make minor adjustments, but this will make it easier to learn the basics of flying. Try flying the eight around obstacles and over chair legs, and you'll soon be ready for something more expensive. Has 3 speeds from walking to running. It will beep to let you know. It's a bit boring for advanced pilots and doesn't do somersaults. I've flown it up to 60 feet and over telephone poles. It is clear that it cannot withstand more than a light breeze. It has an automatic engine shutdown in case of an accident (in my video I crashed on purpose). Battery: It has a non-removable battery with a tiny connector, which is a little fiddly. I had 5.5 minutes of indoor flight before the lights started flashing and 7 minutes before auto landing. The charger has a small red light on the cord that turns green after about 30-40 minutes of charging. Design: Made from very durable rubber plastic that feels unbreakable. The propellers are well protected and can be removed if necessary. Frames appear similar but slightly shorter and wider than other mini quads (F36, H36, E010) but the body feels more premium (see photo). There's a nice white headlight and red taillight that guide you well forward and backward. There is a very small switch and plug on the back. Some may not like that the battery is not easy to remove. The charging cable's plug is also very small, making it difficult to tell which side is up and which is down, but it doesn't matter. Controller: It is small but easy to use, and its quality is much better than other mini quads. The control panels are a little cramped at first, but once they're broken in they're just great. This requires 3 AAA batteries (not included). My advice is to periodically remove the propellers to clear any dust that may have accumulated inside. Don't forget to return them to the right place. There are 2 different props. The diagonal supports are the same. Keep the box, it's compact and good quality. It can be used for transportation. Altitude hold seems to work better when triggered manually (pulling both joysticks down and in) rather than via auto start. If you have a bad accident, you can turn it off and restart as the gyroscopes can go wrong. Company and Quality: Mine didn't work in headless mode and had trouble maintaining altitude. When I opened up the controller it looked like bad solder on the board. These toy helicopters often share common parts and are prone to quality issues, so I don't hold a grudge against them. I contacted Potensic and the customer service was great. They helped with customer support and were willing to endorse their product. The new one is perfect. Other options: H36/F36/E010 are much harder to fly without altitude hold and don't seem to be as good quality. There are similar models with cameras, but they drain batteries and cost more.

Pros
  • Comfortable to use
Cons
  • Infinitely slow
