Review on Philips Hue Gradient LightStrip Assistant Lighting & Ceiling Fans by John Koch

Amazingly accurate

Working with Hue Sync is really fun. I can't talk to the HDMI box because I'm using a PC, but I have a 77" LG G1 and was pleasantly surprised at how accurate the light is. I've run many light show programs to check where and when the colors change and it's a pretty accurate color change exactly as it happens on the screen in the same spot. I was concerned because it only has 7 light zones (2 on each side and 3 on top) but I almost never noticed that it doesn't change perfectly in sync with what's on display. The very few times it turned off was with a grueling spinning color wheel test pattern or other intentionally demanding content. Even then it is only a little and you have to search for it, in normal use you will never miss it even when searching. My TV mounts to the wall and I didn't even have to remove it from the bracket. My only gripe is that it doesn't cover the bottom edge of the screen and Philips doesn't offer a solution to cover that area as competently as the strip. I even bought the Gradient Ambient Light Strip thinking it would do the job since it's basically the same product without the diffuser, but it turned out to be the only disappointing Hue product I bought. The gradient ambient light bar just doesn't work well with the timing. It has 3 zones and depending on how you set it up (where it is in your room) it might show the wrong side of the screen or even have a zone that doesn't work at all (either just a white light or it is out). Considering a strip cost me $200 I was very upset and the customer support is very lacking. After days of talking to Facebook support at all the hateful places (I can't call as they're closed when I'm home and they literally don't have an email address) they finally answered me with one simple "We're aware of the issue". Hue Play Bars work surprisingly well, but it can be difficult to specify their position in the app so they display the colors correctly. But this review is about the Gradient Lightstrip, not about it the company, and that it works really, really well as a standalone product, so if you can live without the light below, fight for a workaround you can live with, as it's never going to be as good as the rest of the screen or not a problem for you at all.this is a must.As for the brightness,I think it is bright enough,it can be used even in daylight if you close the blinds ow (I have regular wooden blinds, not blackout blinds at all) and the light falls on my entire wall and into the room. to the ceiling or to the side and away from the side wall. In fact, you should probably turn it down a bit, as the light can be so bright as to distract from the actual content. However, the music synchronization function needs to be improved. It can benefit from some options as it seems pretty random which part of the music it reacts to and with multiple lights it's hard to tell which part of the music a particular light reacts to.
