The heel is very hard and high. A thicker sock that wraps around the ankle is probably best. The first time I wore them with low socks, I had frigging heels. I waited for my heels to heal, put on a softer sock and encountered the same problem after walking the dogs. Offered them to my mom as we are the same size and her heels were bleeding too. Overall, it's a poor design and not very user-friendly.
