I bought two of these cases to keep an off-season set for my car and my wife's car They are used to store two sets of 19" summer tires (245/35R19). I installed the posts directly onto the studs 48" apart (that's the maximum width) as instructed. This allows me to mount all four wheels and tires with plenty of room to manoeuvre. There is VERY little visible "sag". " or "sag" in the bar due to the weight, but I don't think I'm getting anywhere near the 300-pound mark and I don't think it's worth worrying about. They are definitely safe. Some other reviews complain that the upper tubes don't hold up or the crossmember sags due to the weight but I honestly don't know how that can happen.I suspect these buyers either didn't install them correctly (only 6 snap bolts bolted straight into the cleats - TRY NOT TO USE ANCHORS), or they've tried to lengthen the racks by more than 48". Or maybe I just have an updated model and it's stronger, but so far I'm very happy with this one Luggage rack So it's nice to get those tires off the garage floor.
