Many reviews have complained about the brightness, but a good workaround is to light each bar on both ends. This increases the overall brightness and solves the problem for me. I would also say that too bright a light distracts from driving. This is the correct brightness level for the intended purpose. I would recommend adding some extra fiber optic cable to each package. I've ordered two sets and each time I've run out of earbuds before I've run out of earbuds. Include the same amount of fiber optic cable as the mounting insert.
