I should have looked more closely at the photo to see what material the seat/backrest is actually made of. Feels and looks like textured suede. The brown color (which I bought) isn't bad, but definitely doesn't look like leather. Also a note on assembly: the included instructions are useless. They tell you to lay the frame and seat upside down on a table to get the leverage needed to start assembling and tightening screws etc. These instructions should be for a different item as this chair's armrests definitely won't allow it. We got creative and placed it on a narrow, waist-high bookshelf. All in all a good buy and comfortable but not without surprises.
