I bought this router to replace an older Wireless-G router that was also made by D-Link. G was very good and I was happy with it, so I had no doubts about choosing D-Link for the new router. There was an error. The router has speed problems. When I connect directly to my cable modem, I can get speeds close to my ISP's. When I plug the DIR-615 between the computer and the modem, everything slows down dramatically. It works at 25-35% of the advertised speed. The router has stability problems. When surfing the Internet, connections are constantly being lost. Lots of pauses when trying to watch streaming videos. My VPN takes a lot of timeouts to work. I blamed my ISP for a long time until I started doing serious testing. I contacted D-Link tech support and they offered some advice but nothing helped. I've found myself that turning off all wireless devices in the house and using just a laptop can get up to 75% of normal speeds. When more than three devices are connected, performance drops to an unacceptable level. We have 12 wifi devices if everyone is home at the same time. I tested a comparable Netgear router with this one and the Netgear has become significantly better. The Netgear router gave me decent speeds (+80% of advertised) no matter how many devices I connected. Video streaming was flawless and connection timeouts were gone. These results were duplicated by a friend who also owns this D-Link router. D-Link makes great products, but this is not one of them. Do yourself a favor and spend a little more on the Netgear N300. Or treat yourself to the N600. You deserve it.
