I have 3 big cats who love to tear up sofas. They'll be walking next to the $5 million scratching posts and scratching posts and having fun with the backs and sides of my couches. I have a few of those who don't think they would stop this behavior but after throwing some catnip in here they all cracked with them. They love them and use them all the time. You drop them on the floor a few feet from the couch and follow them. They work best when you combine them all into one large notebook. They also work best when they're on their way to somewhere you don't want them to scratch. Cats don't tear up your stuff out of spite, they do it occasionally and for me, and they're easier targets for them.
