I have had Berky for many years and I like him very much. I've always used black filters because we used well water. I recently moved to another part of town and am now on city water. Knowing I didn't want to drink city water, I ordered these filters from Burke before I moved. I never read reviews. I never thought the performance would be anything but great. A few months later I searched the internet for another topic that isn't even related to Berkey or water filtration, but strangely I came across some people complaining about serious problems with these filters (although they came directly from Berkey were bought). ). I've never heard of Berkey problems, but the universe brought them to my attention, so I've been actively investigating various problems. After some reading, I was concerned about the filters in my Berkey, although I never noticed any problems with the water. So I took my Berkey apart (it was time to clean anyway) and bam. there it was. White sediment at bottom of lower chamber, quite thick. I've been using and cleaning my Berkey for literally 8 years - and I've NEVER seen this white residue before. I can only assume it was because of those new filters (which I didn't need until a few months ago). rev. I know how to follow instructions and have prepared and installed countless black filters so I'm confident I installed them correctly. And I remember running water through them for a long time before getting clean water, much longer than the instructions say. To be fair, I haven't tested my Berka water and I don't know exactly what the sediment is, but I'm pretty sure it can't be good. And I lost faith in Burke because of it. I just ordered another brand of replacement filters, ProPur (after days of research online). I don't care what Burkey says, that white precipitate is safe. NO ONE wants a white film in the water. Why do buyers of Berkey products even buy them? Because they were worried about the quality of the water and wanted to filter out crap, don't add anything INSIDE. If all of these users are somehow responsible for "breaking" the filter during installation to cause this, Berkey urgently needs to redesign this product. are you listening
