This is a normal product. This is the grandson's first globe. The globe itself does not glow. The constellations light up and the star projection glows. The batteries are protected by a screw mechanism. This product made me miss shopping where you can see the product before you buy it. I read the reviews. People liked it. Others did not consider it tenable. More night light with an introduction to maps. I'm sure I'll buy the best product before the end of the year. It also came with no instructions in a booklet and came in a thin box which is why some people say it breaks easily.
