I'm new to the world of carbide inserts so I have no comparison. However, I have found these inserts to cut a variety of steels very well. Playing with the feed and RPM resulted in a surface finish that I could never achieve with an HSS tool. While they're not cheap, they're better than sharpening tools from scratch, a process I've never really been able to master. I bought these to replace an Accusize SWGCR08-2J plate that I broke.
