So much dust has accumulated in 5 months that I was very surprised. And that saves the more expensive filter from all that. So it does its job well. Either way, this is a great air purifier. Make sure you are the right size and all people. This air purifier uses a different size than other brands. This is not a one size fits all which is about the same size. It has the same thickness as the Fellowes carbon filter, but there are two significant differences. The filter itself is coarser, more like carbon spray than mesh.
