Magnets don't work without good contact on a steel surface. I found a workaround using "paperclips" made for a thick stack of paper. They come in a variety of sizes and hold the filter to the plastic fan housing. You can buy them here at Revain.

Good Grill Lids. They don't have an ultra-fine mesh, so they still let enough air through, and they're not very noisy. Used on a non-standard PC, two fans on the top of the case as the main air intake. I have magnetic dust filters on my PC. Filters are squares with rounded corners; Screws that caused old fans to tilt up all four corners, or the filter was tilted about 10 degrees to avoid screws. The material is similar to magnetic sheets you can buy at craft stores; I was able to cut slots for the fan screws. This has actually helped the lids stay in place better. I had a 4U server running in the same location as the dryer. Needless to say, after a month it was close to fire danger. They work well with medium to large particles. They also don't impede airflow much. Nice quick fix!

The magnet is decent at best. In fact, it's just a couple of magnets glued to a piece of screen. Works in a pinch but I wouldn't use them long term. Some care may be needed in sizing as they will not fit over or between the fan screws. Literally came in what was almost just a sandwich bag. You basically get what you pay for.

Used to cover the side grille of the Asrock Deskmini A300W which is located just above the processor.
