The final product turned out great

I followed the directions (2 parts scuptamold to 1 part water) but this material was difficult to work with. It was lumpy right out of the bag when dry. (Is this normal?) It didn't go smoothly and didn't stick well to the foam. The end result was good, but only after I struggled with it. It stuck to the styrofoam after drying; and after polishing the result looked great. He dried up like a stone. I will buy it again because of the good result, but I can't rate it better because of the struggle.

Pros
  • Everything is great!

Fun Molding Sand

I am new to decorating my model railroad and am struggling to find a product that can be conveniently used to create a rocky terrain look. I've experimented with Gypsum and Hydrokale, both of which work well for pouring into molds, but when trying to create rocky terrain they spread out a bit. Sculptamold is awesome! It mixes with water much better than other products and is very easy to apply to your layout with little mess - it stays where you put it and doesn't spill elsewhere. It takesโ€ฆ

Smooth surface IS POSSIBLE

This is GREAT! I'm a beginner sculptor working with only one side sculpt at a time. The photo I'm posting is what it looked like before sanding! I will post a picture with the smooth end product. I use it to cast my sculptures. Yes, I'm not talking about landscapes, I mean real sculptures where I need a smooth surface! I let it dry for a few days, 4 days maximum. And then I sand it, apply more mold to fill holes, then let it dry again, sand and plaster, let dry and sand again / top withโ€ฆ

Pros
  • Good product for the price
Cons

I love this thing

I read about it in a model train book but I couldn't find it for a long time. Then suddenly I found it in three places. So I didn't search hard enough at first. It was worth finding. This material bonds with styrofoam, which is a miracle in itself, and works like plaster of paris and clay - better than either. It is easy to apply with a spatula or spatula and is easy to work with. I immediately bought three more bags to use on a number of projects. It's also a lot less messy than mixing up aโ€ฆ

Pros
  • Lots of positive vibes
Cons
  • No show

I bought two bags of this material for the costume project; I wanted to make some parts out of something strong and light, but it would also be something I could shape, sand, paint and so on. I intended to use it on a hoop to hang from the back of the costume, a pair of horns and a mask. First off, I want to be clear: this stuff didn't do what I wanted it to do. In fact all the parts I made with it were unsatisfactory and are now junk that sits in the heap and I've since remade all the partsโ€ฆ
