My older Dyson made a terrible squeaking noise but still had pretty good suction power. It actually reminded me of a jet engine. While the recommended cleaning of the two filters works, the ability to reuse them is short-lived and a temporary measure, giving you time to 'save up' to buy replacement Dyson filters. Inlet filter works well everyone says. As everyone has reported, the HEPA engine exhaust filter has a thin rubber gasket. Pro tip that's obvious: if you're replacing an OEM HEPA filter, simply remove the rubber gasket from it. The hard plastic part is exactly the same as the OEM version, so the OEM rubber seal fits the new filter. This is a type of compression seal, so no glue is needed.
