Bad power supply for internal components

I bought this power supply VN500W about 9 months ago. 6 months later it failed. The power button on the front of my tower was blinking and the computer wouldn't turn on, indicating a possible power outage, among other things. I fixed the problem and everything pointed to either the MOBO or the power supply being the cause of the problem. I contacted Apevia and after a few emails back and forth I got them to send me a new one. I installed a new one and the computer booted up fine for a day and…

Pros
  • Acceptable
Cons
  • Update available

No worse than more expensive power supplies.

Never had a problem with Apevia power supplies. I have an old Apevia case that came with a power supply and has been running for over 10 years. These new power supplies seem to be just as good. They look cheap but are well made inside. However, if you are building a high-end computer that needs a lot of stable power, I would still recommend you to buy a more powerful power supply. But these are good cheap power supplies for the money.

Pros
  • Holds my fists
Cons
  • Slightly torn

Terrible internals

I was using my computer a day after I assembled it and my CPU cracked and then started smoking. Everything on my computer stopped working immediately.

Pros
  • Positive only
Cons
  • Will do

This PSU scores top in the Computers & Accessories category

I got this PSU with a basic PC about 4 months ago and last night the PSU broke and stopped working. The funny thing is that every time I played on my computer it had a strange smell and luckily it didn't fry everything else, but I thought the PSU was bad because it didn't have an 80+ certificate. So if you're reading this, please don't skimp on the power supply because it's pretty scary when it happens.

Pros
  • There's something to it
Cons
  • Almost never

Computer shuts down randomly

I don't like this product. I got it a few months ago when my original power supply failed instead of my computer randomly shutting down. I have to flip the switch on the back to even turn it back on. I do not recommend this.

Pros
  • Free for educational use
Cons
  • Quality
