Toolbox Paperweight

As a Ford technician I wanted to have my own set of cam holder tools so I didn't have to hunt around the shop for ours. At first glance they looked super strong but after trying them with 3.5x Eco Boost I found they didn't work. The slots are too wide and the forks intended to hold the cam are rounded, causing the cams to slip when attempting to remove and install the phase shifter screws. In general, I do not recommend anyone, they do not work.

Incorrect Timing: Valve train tools

Complete rubbish. The water pump in my wife's 2008 Lincoln MKX failed, so I went ahead and replaced all the timing components at the same time at 108,000 hours. All my life I've been a mechanic/technician, both amateur and professional. This tool kept the Bank 1 cams about half a limb ahead of time, even though the tool contained crap (which was my first cause for concern, this tool wasn't a Bueno). I ended up not being able to use it at all and only had a couple of helping hands when setting…

Worked great in Engine Tools

This tool worked great to replace the water pump on my 2013 Ford Explorer 3.5 V6. I read reviews that the tool is not machined well and needs to be held when moving the crankshaft. I had to keep it but for the price I think this tool does a great job. If you want something more sophisticated, don't pay $35, buy over the counter for $150. I wanted to use 1 time (I hope) and it can't be beat. Of course, this tool can be used multiple times, but I don't recommend it for a store, I don't think it's

Pros
  • . Everything is great!
Cons
  • I won't say anything

A great alternative to a factory tool that gets the job done

This tool works great. The machined holes can literally be too wide but it helps with installing the tool onto the cams as you don't have to strain, they slide smoothly into place and there is little extra room as long as you are at TDC. Small damage means nothing. It sets the time in the perfect spot and keeps it there so there's no problem. People who say the holes are too wide causing the cams to slip out when trying to remove the cam studs are DEBIALS. This tool is not designed to hold high

Works on 2014 Mazda CX-9 3.7L V6 (FWD)

Before purchasing I asked a number of questions about the effectiveness of this product for the above vehicle - I answered both 'yes' and ' No” replies received. Here are the facts: 1. Yes, this tool will work with the above engine - this engine is actually a Ford engine and can be found in many Ford and Mazda vehicles from 2008 to 2015 (with some minor differences specific to this tool do not apply). .2. The tool will hold the cams properly while the engine is running; However, care must be…
