Not suitable for stuck pistons

I see this tool being useful for brake pistons that are not stuck, but it does not work for stuck brake pistons. The knurling on the pads is erased almost immediately.

Pros
  • Very impressive
Cons
  • Some difficulties

works as expected - tool kits

Rebuilt on my Tokico calipers. The pistons were more than a little stuck so I used air to loosen them and then pliers to complete the removal. They appear to be well built and did their job as advertised. The price is right and delivery was quick.

Pros
  • Lots of positive emotions
Cons
  • Not in fashion

Worked well for motorcycle calipers that were in pretty good condition.

This part worked very well for me. I used them to rebuild Nissin four-piston calipers. I'd say they probably don't work well for really stuck pistons. As some other users have mentioned, the tool bends and the ends lose their grip.

One of the best. for fluids and maintenance

.Special tools I have ever used Upon receipt I was satisfied with the weight of the tools. Used it to remove rear caliper discs for 76,000 miles. (Okay, compressed air worked until the first puck came out.) Worked great, no extra help needed. Rotate the washers in the caliper as you pull. Progress is slow, but you can see your progress as more of the washer's front diameter is revealed.

Pros
  • Delivery was very fast
Cons
  • Some small things

Good tool for regular maintenance but not for a stuck cylinder

Good tool at a reasonable price but it doesn't help with a stuck cylinder. I tried it for an hour before calling a friend and he suggested an air pressure that worked 10 times better. If you ride new bikes for regular maintenance, this is a good tool. If your bike is 12 years old and you're catching up on maintenance, it doesn't help.

Pros
  • Few competitors
Cons
  • Some faults

Works best for me in toolboxes

Many reviews give this tool a low rating due to its construction. It was more than enough for me to remove the pistons in my motorcycle calipers. It's important to note that I was able to do this without breaking the caliper. The rectangular design allows you to do this as long as your calipers have a large enough bore. Why not 5 stars? I have to agree that the inserts that grip the inside of the pistons don't stay at the correct 90 degree angle to the tool under extreme pressure - there is…

Well made tool that couldn't be used for my application

Could have been the tool I needed but wasn't for two reasons. Because the tight space I had to deal with didn't go through the hole to get to the pistons. Second, the two halves of the handle that were meant to press against the inside of the piston were offset from the end of the tool, making the metal they were attached to a point of contact. Perhaps this would not have been the case if I had been able to thread the tool through the hole provided. Despite the problems I was having, I pulled…

*** Tool modifications required to work with VW calipers/pistons ***

I used this tool on a 1969 VW Karmann Ghia. The front brakes are calipers, as are the bugs from that era. You do not have to remove the piston, but you must rotate it while it is in the caliper to install the caliper backing plate. This tool is very similar to the tool in the repair manual, although the image in the manual only partially shows the tool. Definitely this tool works, but it needs some modification, hence the rating is 3 stars. The quality of this instrument is "Harbor Freight"…

Pros
  • Easy to read control panel
Cons
  • Nothing
