Hardware is good, software is bad

I recently realized that I was being lazy with my backups. Enter WD My Passport external hard drive. The difference between this and the slightly cheaper HD WD Elements portable seems to be that the former is better suited for backups. At least that's what Western Digital's marketing says. *** Good *** As an external hard drive, it works perfectly. I've posted screenshots of some of the DiskMark tests I ran and the read/write speeds are basically what I'm seeing on my internal SATA hard drive…

Drive failed after saving my data on it

Since my cloud service has expired I decided to save all my data on one of them until I buy a more permanent option. After migrating and deleting everything from my cloud, a few days later I tried to migrate it to my new cloud service but found that I couldn't access it at all. WD didn't work at all. I lost everything. I will never buy a WD product again. And I can't get it back because I'm worried that someone else could access some very confidential data that I saved on the hard drive and…

The last one worked about 5 hours, this one about 6. HORRIBLE quality.

I bought the 2TB version of Elements 5 years ago, used it to back up my files, and then removed it. Last week when I was stalking him he was dead. 5 years ago he worked maybe 5 hours. Against my better judgment, believing it was 5 years ago, I bought one of these. I've spent a few hours every day for the past 3 days backing up data to this new drive. Today it makes the same clicks as the previous one. He's dead. Edit: There are replacements. I started backing up 200 gigs. Started clicking in…

This hard drive keeps failing.

I really hope this is a production issue as my first drive failed after about a few days and my second drive failed after a few weeks. Considering I'm used to WD hard drives that last for years, that's very disappointing. I need my external hard drive to last more than a few weeks because I'm screaming out loud! I remember how old technologies that were only released a few years ago worked much longer than this one. I need a reliable hard drive. I've been seeing a sharp drop in quality lately…

WD quality is deteriorating! Broken "heads " / defective goods!

I bought this item about 5 weeks ago. After 4 weeks it started beeping. I heard a beep and heard the hard drive spinning, but none of the files could be read by my computer. After not much research I found thousands of people with the same problem. It looks like this drive has problems with the "heads" whatever they are. They appear to be defective. I went to Revain's website and asked for a call to fix the problem. I was twice put in contact with people who had a very heavy foreign accent that
