Affordable option for freelance editors

This is a great little card for the money. Easy to install (except for a DELL related bug. There's nothing a zip tie can fix).

Pros
  • So far so good
Cons
  • So-so

Mandatory!: Computer components

If you're using a non-linear editor that supports this card (Davinci, Premier, Final Cut) and have a spare 4K HDR TV/monitor or professional display, this card is GREAT for direct to viewport output .

Pros
  • Top marks for support and durability from testers
Cons
  • The list will be long.

Even works with Final Cut Pro 7! 4K looks great

This card is the best BM card I've ever used, mainly because it works. I've tried several other cameras and BM cards and have usually been disappointed with the results or lack of features. However, this card runs in Sierra, runs at 4K resolution, even 1080p looks great on my 4K TCL monitor. The big surprise is that it works with FCP 7, yes the FCP 7 options for BM playback are shown in FCP 7. I threw away my old AJA Kona 3 card with a lot of hesitation but very happy so far. I would recommend…

Pros
  • glitters
Cons
  • has problems

Works best in computer components

It was easy to install. Works great for playing Pro Tools video on Mac Pro 2019 on Catalina. Install the card, download and install drivers, done. It took 7 minutes in total.

Pros
  • Wide range
Cons
  • Not as thick as other options

HDR playback on an HDR monitor with a $200 Mac Pro... wow

I used a Blackmagic UltraStudio 4K mini to monitor HDR while editing in FCPX and when I was using the Mac Pro gotta figure out if that's the $200 The DeckLink card does the same thing - and it does! I've connected it to an ATOMOS Sumo 19 via SDI and a LG OLED TV via HDMI at the same time, and everything is supported and working as you'd hope. (Tested on macOS Catalina 10.15.7 and Mac Pro 2019)

Pros
  • New
Cons
  • A bit torn

Works great but stock fan is unbearable

Does what it's supposed to do with no problems but factory fan/heatsink setting leaves a lot to be desired. The high frequency hum it produces was too much for me to deal with for long days of editing, so I bit the bullet and bought my own Noctua heatsink and fan and all is well now.

Pros
  • Good thing
Cons
  • Don't remember but there was something

Excellent, like most black magic products

This is a black magic device, what else do you need to know? It supports all formats listed and doesn't drop frames, sometimes especially with HDMI inputs, but generally requires a stable signal.

Pros
  • looking forward to
Cons
  • sad packaging
