I am reviewing after using for a few weeks and it works as advertised. I had no trouble releasing it, and the folding mechanism doesn't "pop", it lays flat against the computer when I move it and only opens when I manually move it to the open position. Sure, it keeps the Mac cooler, no question about it. Air can circulate easily and the high-speed fan seems to come on less often. The adhesive lasted about 2 weeks before falling off. But it's a great, stable stand. Unlike others that have feet on the corners, this one supports across the width so it can be used in more situations like standing on flat surfaces or just sitting on your lap to support a hot laptop from keep off your feet. I purchased this product in 2014 and it is now attached to the bottom of four MacBook Pros. It's a damn strong, good product. Once or twice a year it comes off and I have to wash it in hot water, shake it off and let it dry and then put it back on. to be a little cooler.

Overall the construction is actually pretty solid, when the stand cover is open it slides a little to the left from slot to the other slot in the final position. At first the groove on one end looked like warped plastic, but it's there for a reason and doesn't allow the stand lid to float freely. I really liked the design and it has a secure hold in the top position, but I couldn't really attach it to my laptop and use it because I just didn't have enough space under my laptop so it could as well stick without blocking the vents on the bottom of the laptop. Works very well; I've been using it on my 17" MBP for several months. To address some of the issues raised by the negative reviews: Yes, it loses its stickiness after it's been good BUT.
