For DVR storage expansion, this product is the absolute winner!

I love it when something works great right out of the box and this WD eSATA drive did just that. I bought it to expand storage on our Tivo Roamio OTA DVR. Setup was easy (less than 10 minutes from opening the box to installing and ready to go) and increased our total storage capacity from 75 hours to 236 hours of HD programming (or 1618 hours of SD programming). Here are some details. The drive comes with BOTH an eSATA male to male cable and a USB A male to USB mini 5 male cable (plus a small…

Works with Verizon FiOS QIP 7232 2 PVR & MARCH 2013 UPDATE

Setup was easy, plug everything in (turn on DVD expander and connect eSata to QIP 7232 and DVR Expander), turn off QIP 7232 for 15 seconds and plug power back in . The QIP 7232 will reboot when power is restored. After the reboot, go to the QIP 7232 menu and select the option to add storage and follow the instructions. YOU WILL NOT LOSE ANYTHING ALREADY RECORDED ON THE QIP 7232 DVR. My DVR drive was 70% full and finally everything was still in place. The system manages the new memory as a…

Works as advertised

I am upgrading my hopper and need a device to store the contents of my existing hopper hard drive which would otherwise be lost when replacing the old hopper. I could have gone for the 2TB model, but I found this unit on sale at Revain. Since Dish recommends this device, I decided to use it instead of experimenting with other external hard drives. Keep in mind that for Hopper users the connection is USB 2.0 so any video transfer from Hopper to WD or vice versa will not be fast. However, you can

More than enough size

In April 2014 I bought my first HD TV, a 40 inch Toshiba 40 inch diagonal LED TV. Other than that, I wanted to watch everything in HD, but that requires HD recording. But HD recordings take up a lot more space than SD recordings and it became clear that I was going to fill up my DVR very quickly. For example, if I'm recording a Pirates game, I'll happily record 5 hours in case there are extra innings. But it took up 25% of my DVR. But now with a DVR Expander connected it only takes 3%. Now I…

Great drive but limited by TIVO software

There are many reviews on this product covering most aspects. But I haven't seen one that covers the angle I'm trying to give here: using this external hard drive with two different TIVO DVRs and even transferring it to a computer. I bought this drive 7 months ago to increase capacity. my old TIVO premiere. So it worked fine. Most of the time there weren't any issues, although I did experience occasional crashes while watching soccer games. I suspect this happened when part of the recording was

Freedom from a full-fledged DVR is a wonderful freedom

We've had a Tivo box for several years and from day one I was hesitant about expanding the storage by buying an external drive. I really didn't want to pay more than $100 for a 1TB drive. However, I finally made up my mind and bought this DVR expander this year. It seemed like a lot of money back then, but the luxury of never having to worry about space on our dash cam is well worth it. Believe me. Right now my wife has 68 hours of The Tonight Show on our DVR for some reason. We'll never see…
