Brass fittings and a plethora of O-rings were the only plus points of this set. The wicks have been soaked in tiki liquid and left in the liquid for a few days and they will start to burn like regular tiki, but the flame will die out in less than a minute and won't light up again until the next day. It's like the liquid isn't actually being absorbed by the wicks!

I've made oil lamps out of everything, even rocks. But this wick system is very wrong. First, it's such a thick wick that when it's burning it looks like a Molotov cocktail. Too much flame for a bottle lamp that probably should be on a table. It then burns out very quickly unless you keep your bottle of lamp oil, which is a ton of oil. It didn't seem very safe.

The material it is made of (fiberglass) is as bad as a wick. It does not have good absorbency. The bottle must therefore be almost completely full in order for it to continue burning. If the fill level falls by just a few centimetres, it goes out. the wick must be cotton. Also, the wick should loosen in the brass fitting and fall back into the bottle once it leaves the bottom of the bottle.

There must be many differences in this product. Mine came as described. The wick didn't look like fiberglass. They are thick enough to be held in place by a brass fitting. Each is 10" long so doesn't reach the bottom of the bottle. Great idea from others; Place pebbles (or glass beads or balls) on the bottom. The only thing I removed from the star is that neither side of the brass fitting will fit in a standard wine bottle as long as it has a rubber "washer" on it. know what the story is about…

I followed the instructions exactly. I poured paraffin oil into three washed and dried wine bottles, soaked the wicks in the oil for 48 hours, and lit the wicks. I noticed that the outer shell of the wick had burned away exposing the inside of the wick which was not holding the flame. After 4 minutes the flame went out. To add to the initial disappointment, the first set of these wicks were missing the wick caps, spacers and chains to hold the caps in place, so I sent this set back and received
