GREAT LOCAL BACKUP SOLUTION

I bought the 16TB version. I set it up as RAID 10 for local backups. It's fast and combined with some decent backup software and routine, I can set it up and forget it. .

Pros
  • Storage
Cons
  • Compatibility

16TB is only 10.9TB of usable RAID5 space. For real?

I am rating this product based on the responses I am getting from people in Buffalo. So my 16TB box configured for RAID5 needs to use 1 drive (4TB) for the party for fault tolerance. However, after configuring this array in Windows 10 to RAID5, the total available disk space reported by Windows is only 10.9 TB. I was not expecting that. I was expecting around 12TB. Can someone tell me what's going on here? Seems like the place is missing somewhere. is it windows or buffalo?

Pros
  • Computers and Accessories
Cons
  • Good but not great

So far so good and mine came with WD Red rims!

So far, so good! It's only been running for two days, so I'll be sure to update if anything changes. I set up a RAID 5. The backup consists mainly of photos and Time Machine. Photos range from 20MB to 75MB each. Photo editing in Photoshop and Lightroom via USB 3.0 is fast and changes are almost instantaneous. Buffalo doesn't make their own discs, so I'm told this could come with discs from all major manufacturers. Mine ended up with WD Red drives, so I'm happy with that. The fan isn't too loud…

Pros
  • Pre-tested NAS-class hard drives - pre-configured with RAID
Cons
  • Expensive

The hard drive has problems when the computer is sleeping.

I am ambivalent about this product. I bought Quad and Duo. I have an ATV on TimeMachine and my photo library on Duo. When the computer goes to sleep, the drive does not eject properly and does not mount again until I turn the drive off and on again. Duo does this, but will be redeployed when the computer wakes up. If the Photos app is running, you will have to close and reopen the app as it will lose the library location. My Western Digital hard drive has never done this. Next time I will try a
