Distractingly loud

This drive is fast and inexpensive, but the spinning drive is distractingly loud. By far the loudest turntable I've ever owned. I bought WD My Drive for the same price and with the same features. I measured the volume side by side, WD turned out to be 2-3 times quieter. Send Buffalo back. If you have a way to test the Buffalo or hook it up far, far away, it seemed to work fine for the few hours I could put up with it.

Waste of time and money

Unless Windows 10 has changed or Buffalo has not developed a workaround, Buffalo Axis Velocity will not work with Windows 10. Good luck, call Buffalo Technical Support . They act like they don't understand their own systems. I called Buffalo tech support and had a Dell tech support agent on the phone. Dell Tech asked Buffalo Support some questions that Buffalo Tech was unable to answer. Dell Support has developed a workaround that only works as long as the computer remains powered on.

It's not worth it. in data store

I bought this because my computer was about to die and I wanted to keep my stuff. The Buffalo was very easy and quick to use. I've only had it for maybe 6 months but on a different computer. I accidentally knocked it over and it started to "tick". I checked online why and then rushed off to try and salvage all my belongings. Bison wouldn't let me access it. Then it started ticking very quickly - and just stopped, it died. Decades of photography, writing poetry and stories, some artwork, all my…

Works great with my Xbox ONE X

This external drive works great with my Xbox ONE X. I highly recommend this 4TB version as I previously went the "cheap route" and bought the 2TB version , for which I rushed out of the room. Especially since some games like Halo and Gears of War require around 100 gigabytes of storage (all seasonal expansions and add-on map packs). Be sure to try and buy this 4TB version. One caveat: sometimes the drive gets a little noisy, a little noisy. If you tap it very lightly, shake it very lightly, the

worked 9 months.

Purchased for NAS system. There was no fan in it, it couldn't be plugged in because of the proprietary connector. It gets very hot and sometimes had to be turned off to cool it down. I was listening to music and it just stopped, made a loud squeak, and now it just clicks and turns off. I took it to a reputable repair shop to see if data recovery is possible. They said they also didn't tell me that the failure was due to the rubber seal peeling off due to the hot heat, causing the needle heads…

Fails after about a year of use as external storage for PS4

I've been using this as an external hard drive for my PS4 for about a year and it has generally worked well during that time. Sometimes it wouldn't boot up fast enough when the PS4 was turned on, and other times it wouldn't turn itself off when the PS4 went to sleep - I'm not sure if the Buffalo or PS4 case is to blame is. for these quirks. About a year later, it started shutting down very noisily, and shortly after, it failed completely. The hard drive no longer starts. The light flashes when…

Good drive with some minor bugs

This is a good drive, but it has a few issues that may or may not be a problem. First, it can be a bit noisy when accessed. Inside is a Toshiba drive (from SMART Diagnostics) that I bought to replace a 2TB Toshiba drive that was relatively quiet. If I wasn't sure if an old Toshiba drive was being accessed, I had to either look at the light or feel the vibration on the payout. This one leaves no doubt, easily audible from five feet with a hard grip. Second, it tends to run a little warmer…

Cons
  • Something is wrong

I am using a Buffalo DriveStation Axis Velocity 2TB USB 3.0 desktop hard drive for a DIY DVR with multiple TV video capture cards. Currently I have at most TWO cards burned on this disc (two different TV channels) and I can WATCH (one reads) and maybe even read another show that I edited and edited on another disc. This allows two processes to write to disk and two processes to read from disk at the same time. It's pretty intense. The little green light will flash almost immediately when all of
