Calphalon CKCLWF1 Intellicrisp Waffle Maker: Perfectly Crispy Waffles in Dark Stainless Steel Review

This waffle maker received the highest rating from Consumer Reports and I would agree if it weren't for a flaw in its performance. As the batter is added, the window will change from "READY TO COOK" to "COOK" and count down until it's done. However, sometimes my device doesn't say COOKING and I can only guess when it will be done. So far, this only happened on the second wafer, and then not constantly.

I have used several waffle irons but I really like this one. It lets you know when the dish is ready, and at medium doneness, the waffle comes out perfect every time. The only catch is that the waffle racks are not removable for cleaning. They are incredibly easy to clean, if you just spray them with a little cooking spray you can easily wipe them down after cooking and they will cool.

After many years of using a cheaper iron with a dark dial and quick heating, I tried the Calfalon waffle iron. It took me getting used to the slower heat up time, but once I got used to giving it the extra time it took to heat up, I was hooked! The waffle maker makes great waffles and cleans well. The only downside is that it's heavy, but that's the only downside in my opinion. worth every penny.

UPDATE: We've had this kettle for about a year now and it only works sporadically. We're having trouble turning on. The screen backlight doesn't always turn on when the knob is turned, so it doesn't get hot. We love how it cooks when it works and that it's ceramic, but our last waffle maker lasted 8 years with almost daily use. It stinks. I was very lucky to get this BF deal. Once I opened it up, I rubbed it down with a sponge and dried it with a paper towel. I then made a small batch of pancake batter to test the heating elements. The batter was well spread and I sprinkled Turbinado sugar on top to test the non-stick ceramic coating.
