Description of Carter M4566 Mechanical Fuel Pump

Built to meet or exceed OEM fit and reliability and 100% factory tested and approved. Ideal for vehicles with low pump pressure between 4 to 6 PSI. Less susceptible to contaminates because its located outside the fuel tank. In-Line pumps are driven by the camshaft, which effectively transfers fuel from the tank to the carburetor.

Unreliable Fuel System for Automotive Performance

Thanks to my knowledge gained in practice, I don't recommend this fuel system. It fails to deliver fuel consistently, leading to poor engine performance.

Pros
  • None
Cons
  • Unreliable and poor engine performance

No worse than the original.

I bought this for my 65 GTO. I haven't installed yet. The quality doesn't even come close to an original AC/Delco pump, but I guess that's to be expected in this global economy.

Pros
  • Less prone to contamination as it is located outside the fuel tank.
Cons
  • socket required.

The good thing about the fuel pump is that it actually works.

This was not an exact replacement for the original fuel pump. The inlet and outlet were not in the same location on the pump housing as the original. In fact, they were in the opposite location on the pump housing. The fuel pressure generated by the new pump may have been too high as this caused fuel to leak through the carburetor top seal. It seems to me that the manufacturer is trying to make this pump too versatile. The good thing about a fuel pump is that it actually pumps fuel.

Pros
  • The in-line pumps are driven by a camshaft which efficiently pumps fuel from the tank to the carburetor
Cons
  • will be added later
