Theoretically a great idea, but beware!

Very disappointed. Bought this for my techphobic 85 year old mother who has hearing and vision problems. The phone was fine for the first month, but yesterday it just stopped working normally. I've tried resetting it, changing the batteries, switching to a different phone jack, and even checking the line. Nothing solved the problem. The dial tone is barely audible, it constantly hisses and crackles. Mom was so excited because she was practically cut off from the world for two days until I could

Pros
  • Expandable to 5 phones
Cons
  • No instructions

Speed dial

The manufacturer has tried to simplify telephoning and reduce the number of keys by integrating the speed dial function into the numeric keypad. The caller simply presses and hold any number on the keypad and after a few seconds the phone will dial the number you have programmed. That's a good idea in theory, but not a good idea in practice. The keyboard keys are soft and squishy, don't give any tactile feedback or a click to tell when they're pressed, and if you don't hold down a key for about

Pros
  • Digital answering machine
Cons
  • Excessive price

So far so good

The sound is a bit raspy. Not as clear as the phone we replaced. This phone is for my mother who has vision problems and dementia. It doesn't tolerate changes, so I wasn't sure if that would work. She's had it for 3 weeks now and still not sure. PROS: Because it's white, the keys offer great contrast. (The previous phone was black with black buttons and white lettering. It doesn't suit her.) The numbers are large and easy to read. There are fewer buttons on the handset and stand, so it's less…

Pros
  • Clear Boosts incoming sound by up to 30 dB
Cons
  • Slightly irregular
