They really work! Our brushes look like new. I managed to get all the lint off the brushes. There are no directions. Trial and Error showed me to use a large black brush first. Do not remove hair with hands. Let the brush do this and it will pull out all the lint as well. If there are stragglers, you can continue brushing with a large black brush or use a small one.

When I use the pink rake it looks brittle but hasn't fallen apart yet. They both do a good job - I have very long, thick, strong hair and it combs through easily with my round brush (I comb it on one side, then I take my hand and twist it as hard as I can and repeat. With a regular brush flat brush is much easier to clean) and I use a black brush to remove smaller particles like dust or dandruff. I hate when my comb looks shabby and I'm tired of removing hair with my fingers (hair annoys me, even my own). A few strokes of this through my brushes and the hair is pulled out leaving a clean brush ready to use. Highly recommended!

I have included a before and after photo to show how amazing this product works! I use dry shampoo which can build up on my brushes and my hair is long so a lot of dirt can build up. This little kit takes care of all that and makes them almost brand new! Also, it's really nice to see all the lint coming out of the brush lol.

I bought a second comb as a gift for a friend with very long hair and she said it was the best gift she had ever given her. With this, your comb will be like new. I didn't know about this tool until I saw a barber using it and it was truly a game changer. Highly recommend this set, the small tool helps get rid of some of the stubborn dust from some brushes, but the main tool is the big one. I had an old boar bristle brush and it was very difficult for me to clean it. The brush cleaning tool did a great job cleaning and reviving my old brush. The other item in the package was a comb cleaning tool. I was skeptical. The tool looks fragile and might become so over time, but it's terribly inexpensive. Thing is, it worked like a charm and cleaned out my rat tail combs. I was amazed how well it worked.
