The Cusinart CTG-00-BG piece grater was a bargain

The Cusinart CTG-00-BG box grater was a good buy. Stable, reliable, easy to use. This is a classic model. The nice rubber grip and bottom frame made it a pleasure to use.

Pros
  • Even the elderly can understand
Cons
  • Some cons

The base is not stainless steel and will rust.

Underneath the rubber base is a carbon steel (not stainless) support rod that will rust. This is unacceptable for a tool that should be 100% rust free - I never used it and it rusted from the first wash.

Pros
  • Quality construction
Cons
  • Transparency

The metal parts are NOT 100% stainless steel.

As several other reviewers have noted, this grater has a stick around the bottom of the grater that is NOT stainless steel. The non-slip rubber dripped rusty black water when I took it out of the dishwasher. I removed a piece of rubber and saw that the pole that went through the floor was already rusted! To say it is 100% stainless steel is very misleading.

Pros
  • New
Cons
  • Not as good as advertised

Works well but poor design

The grater works well. I've only used the soft cheese side so far, but it shreds cheddar and similar cheeses quickly. I have two problems with the design. First, there is a rubber frame around the base to keep the grater in place. Unfortunately, the cheese gets caught between the rubber frame and the body of the grater, making cleaning difficult. The frame can be removed, but this requires some effort and is a bit risky as the surface of the grater is riddled with sharp edges. The second issueโ€ฆ

Pros
  • There's something to it
Cons
  • You could have chosen a newer model

I'm glad I have this grater

I'm glad I have this grater because it's so much easier to use than my childhood grater. The grater I had as a kid had a thin, flexible metal handle. It was painful to hold when grating 3 pounds of cabbage. It has a thick, chunky handle to hold on to and comes in handy when I'm grating mounds of potatoes (mmmmmm. mounds of potatoes). The only problem is that I wish the blades were sharper. Like my baby grater, it's just stamped sheets of metal. "Teeth" are not sharpened in any way, which meansโ€ฆ

Pros
  • Looks good
Cons
  • Expensive insurance

Dangerous. the best of graters

I've never complained about the cutting tool being too sharp and I hold my knives like scalpels; I'm used to sharp tools in the kitchen, but there's a difference between really sharp tools and just ragged ones. A corner of the top of this grater had such rough edges that I had to smooth it out with a file after cutting myself while holding the handle. The coarse grater is convenient to use, but the fine side is covered with rough, perforated edges that are difficult to clean as items get stuckโ€ฆ

Pros
  • Consistent test results
Cons
  • Reliability
