DOA Electronics: Computer Components

I bought this H700 after purchasing a Dell R710 because it contained a 6i card which does not support SSDs. The card arrived and was packaged very well, but I still have to give it a star as the product arrived DOA.

Inexpensive upgrade Dell R710 PERC 6/i

I read that PERC 6/i is limited to 3GB and H700 to 6GB in my Dell R710. I didn't see a doubling of IOPS, but I did see a 25% speed increase when backing up with rsnapshot. You need to replace the cables from the SAS backplane to the H700. It took over 15 minutes to shut down the server and all my VMs to swap out the RAID card and cables. All the talk on Reddit says I need to import my old RAID config as a foreign config. But when I booted up, the H700 said all my virtual drives were there and…

Works great in Dell T610 with new cable purchase

It fits and works perfectly in my refurbished Dell T610. I can now use drives larger than 2TB, which was one of the major limitations of the other controller they came with. However, you will need to buy new cables, which is also mentioned in the listing.

Works out of the box with client OS

I used to work at Dell, these cards are reliable. Considering a hardware raid for personal use, I didn't hesitate to select an enterprise-class controller at an unbeatable price.

Pros
  • Delivery was very quick
Cons
  • Infinitely sluggish

Decent upgrade for the price.

This is a good and reasonable upgrade. I like the jump in performance, I've also noticed that the drives wear out less due to the 512MB cache. Hard drive read and write indicators now almost completely stop flashing under light loads. This should also save some energy. I have upgraded a Perc 6/i to an H700 on a Dell R510 server attached to 6 SAS 3-1/2" 10k drives in a RAID5 configuration. I am using this server for my Vsphere v6.7 home lab and have also noticed that the average datastore…

This controller works fast enough and is worth the money

In fact, this is an LSI controller. If you are migrating hard drives from an old LSI, they may import successfully. I was able to integrate this controller with an HP SAS expander. I had to change the controller settings (disable directpdmapping via cli) to integrate with the extender. This controller is fast enough and great for the money spent. Make no mistake, this is an old controller. But the good thing is that this controller will work with more or less all workstations/servers, while the
