Not all of these items are North

12 compasses received. 3 points north. 3 points closer to the north. And 6 didn't point north. Each was tested and separated from the others and removed from metallic objects that could affect the highly magnetized needle. So for the price I think it's a poor value for you Cub Scouts. 3 will find their way home, 3 will approach the house and 6 will not return to the camp.

Pros
  • GOLS certified
Cons
  • boring package

We needed about 40 circuits for our homeschool group, which really worked! But we only needed them for a few hours, so I didn't want to rob the bank for something that's no longer needed. These compasses are tiny but work great. I found them perfect for kids and perfect for what we need them for (nature walk). Would buy again!

Pros
  • Satisfied so far
Cons
  • New competitors have arrived

one missing; they work well

I only received 11 because the thin plastic bag they came in was torn; This presumably happened before they were placed in the envelope as the envelope was sealed and although I fished out a few from the bottom of the envelope I still only have 11. They appear to be working as intended; Exactly what I expected for this price. A compass I measured showed 19.6mm on my calipers, but it still rounds up to 20, so it's fine.

Pros
  • Excellent construction
Cons
  • Not as thick as other picks

Bubble Free Push Button Compass

I think these are great budget compasses. What I like most about them is that they don't contain any liquid, so they don't fizz and become unusable over time. I also like that they have a legend below to help you find the bearing (something you can't do with most button compasses). I had two that rotated 180 degrees but not bad for that $8 amount. I suspect I can fix the ones that are knocked out with a magnet.

Pros
  • Very Impressive
Cons
  • Clarity

Great if you need a dozen cheap, very basic compasses.

Shaft points north. You get what you pay for here. Judging by the description, they are very small, about the size of a penny. They are quite sensitive and tremble a little in the hand. I used them for 1st and 2nd grade Girl Scouts on our first attempt at using the compass. Since our budget is almost non-existent, they were perfect for that. Definitely not for true orienteering, but if you get lost or navigate the main trails they will point you in the right direction.

Pros
  • Easy to read control panel
Cons
  • Slightly dented

This is a cheap but reliable compass. Unlike some.

This is a cheap but reliable compass. Unlike some other reviewers, I found that 100% of the compasses point north. (I wonder if other reviewers have spaced them far enough apart or away from metal interference. Also, the needles can be removed from the gimbal and may need a bit of shaking to get them to vibrate properly.) On other reviews, I've ordered twice , which is what I needed, assuming I had to throw away half of it, so I have lots of extras now.

Pros
  • High marks for support and durability from testers
Cons
  • Unbelievable price

Excellent and CHEAP! - Compasses

These are the cheapest, best compasses WITHOUT BUBBLES! I have dozens of different types of compasses, but they are great for attaching to a watch band, a walking stick, anything that can be glued. What I like best is the fact that they don't get wet by liquid and therefore never get that pesky bubble that all (from the cheapest to the most expensive) compasses have. I gave this 4 stars because at least one of them gets wet on the inside but for the price this could be reconsidered plus I'm…

Pros
  • Stylish and modern design
Cons
  • Basically ok, but...

What it works for. He points north. But to use it you have to stop; Place it on a stable, flat surface or hold it VERY, VERY firmly on the back of your hand. It just takes some getting used to. This is not a speed measuring compass to use while walking or on the go. The arrow wobbles too much. But if the chips are down, it will do. They have a license plate that you can use; if you have a small flashlight. UV really makes it visible. It's a "so-and-so" compass: you can still navigate with a…
