Video conversion failed after 3 hours of use

I was hoping that it would be a decent device and software. It was immediately apparent that the footage was much darker than the original 8mm camcorder's LCD. The included software doesn't seem to be able to do any video editing other than adding transitions, which I didn't care. Unfortunately, there is no way to brighten the video. Bought this device based on other people's reviews; in fact it works very well. I'm in the process of converting about 75 VCRs to digital and the process is going well. However, the documentation is very limited and doesn't help much with the process. It's relatively easy to set up and use, but it did require some trial and error. I like looking at the VCR while recording and I have a backup computer, an old VCR and cassette tapes in a closet running a VCR/converter to create digital VCR files.
