Dorman 917-004 Engine Oil Filter Cap: Compatible with Ford/Mazda/Mercury Models, Black Finish Review

I don't like giving one star reviews but this item doesn't deserve any more. It was purchased to replace a cracked OEM oil filter cover. I started licking in less than a year.

changed the oil put on a new cap in 5 days it leaked and i lost all the oil. I looked closely at the stuffing box and there was a small indentation around the rim that holds the sealing ring and pushes the oil to the bottom under pressure. My return date was 6/6/17, it happened on 7/6/17.

This oil filter cap looks perfect until you try to screw it on. Starts as if coming up but quickly stops about a quarter of the way down. After several tries I finally found that the filaments are smaller or closer together than the original I was trying to replace. Save your money guys. Dorman must stop selling the product.

Inconsistency in production. I bought 2 of these. The first was fine and was a backup of my original. I dropped it and it broke. I bought another one but this one cost me a lot more. When I first used it, the middle screw was leaking. I figured it was because I used the gasket that came with the kit, so I removed the oil, cleaned the old one and continued. I've just tried again and can confirm it's just a defective item as I've changed all the seals and it's leaking from the same spot. So much…

Something is wrong with this case. Firstly, despite being the same size as my original case and looking almost exactly the same. It doesn't screw all the way in, leaving the threads open about an inch. Secondly, for some reason a 6mm allen wrench will not fit the drain plug (which is one of the main reasons I bought this case as I broke the bolt on the original), the head of the allen wrench is kinda bigger than the hole, not in the original.
