🔒 Dorman Help! 41068 Spare Tire Securement Device Review

I needed this for an '87 Cadillac Brougham that I recently bought. Although it fits, I had to cut off a few inches from it because it protruded too far past the tire. It's pretty odd that the original wasn't, but. At least I could buy a replacement. Thanks very much!

I ordered this for my 2003 Mustang Mach 1. That's too long for a Mustang and didn't have treads in the J-hook long enough to secure the tire. However, I was able to cut it to the right length and wind it up more with the tap and die set I had. If you don't have a cutting tool and tap and die set, DO NOT BUY THIS for the 99-04 Mustang, not sure on the 94-98 models.

Absolute rubbish. Delivered quickly, but the metal is so soft that it only loses its usable shape when pressure is applied. When I carefully used a vice to force it back into shape (as I have done countless times with bent metal) this piece of junk broke. Just snapped! Also, the nut in the handle fell out. I wouldn't recommend anyone buying this as a spare tire unless you have large liability insurance that covers losing a tire on the road.

The price is good but the wing nut that comes with it is terrible. The wing nut was very difficult to remove. After an hour of trying to remove it, it fell off. I recommend purchasing additional hardware when purchasing this product. I used a plastic wing nut from an old lawnmower and also used a plastic washer (because even with the plastic wing nut it almost got stuck). Apparently we've been driving without the spare tire hanger installed for years (huge safety issue). Didn't realize it until I mounted a subwoofer on a JBL spare tire (fits well, sticks out a bit, but no big deal). The standard rod wasn't long enough so I had to find a longer J-hook.
