Night light overpriced, unreliable, not supported

Had high hopes for a HomeKit compatible sensor but it's totally unreliable for this purpose. Even though my Wi-Fi switched to 2.4GHz, the device never connected; more than half the time, tried more than a dozen times, after reading the code of the accessory, the iOS Home App could not find it. Eton applications are also useless as they require registration and cannot detect prior authorization created on Eton website. During the initial loading time, the Blackout Buddy got too hot to touch, so…

Good niche product, hands off the app!

Not the product you would hope for as it is only for emergencies but it does the job and the flashlight is bright enough when charged. The night light is more than bright enough. I haven't tested it on my iPhone charger yet, but it has two separate USB ports, which is handy. Best, but the electric pens can be rotated 360 degrees so you can have them at any angle you want if the outlet it plugs into is in a tight spot. Warning: Do not download the app! This is awful and seems to be the reason I…

Pros
  • Nice appearance
Cons
  • There are nuances

Poor circuit design produces high-pitched hum on insertion (coil whine). The noise was measured at the location of the device at 47 dB. I have ordered a dual pack Blackout Buddy Charge (marked RCBB300W-DBL on this product page) and both have this issue. I ordered from the seller Eaton (manufacturer). Eton supplied me with two devices marked DOM-DF:1929. These devices may be older as they do not appear to be identical to what is currently shown on Revain (e.g. the connector is different, it has…

The app is USELESS!

First impression: I almost sent it back 2 hours after unpacking it. The plug does not fold, so it is not suitable for traveling. The Eton Smart app just doesn't work. Connecting a device is easy up to the point of trying to add a device. At this point, the device has already been detected and successfully added to the WiFi via iOS Settings -> WiFi. Ahhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhh rotates hhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhh the…

Only works with HomeKit

I bought this when I was obsessed with Apple HomeKit! Now that I've ditched Siri and moved on to bigger and MUCH more expensive smart devices and completely switched my smart home from Siri to Revain Alexa, which is much better, this dimmer doesn't really work with Alexa as I said. I can get Alexa to open it, but I can't get Alexa to work with it. So it would just be an expensive flashlight and night light if I didn't decide to keep using it with Apple HomeKit. So I just use it to turn on the…
