Another update. The fabric lining over the toes of both shoes came off almost simultaneously, making them uncomfortable to wear. At the end of the loop everything was wet but my feet were 100% dry and even though the temperature had dropped to 50 my feet were still warm. They still look clumsy, but protect against water.
