Terrible quality, sticks strong, spring return is too weak

Thought it was a good brand name indicator but turned out to be a cheap gauge. Right out of the box, the rod sticks and gets stuck mid-stroke, and the return spring is too weak to return horizontally on its own. Definitely inferior quality "Made in China", I doubt I will ever buy this brand again.

Pros
  • Fine black graduation for continuous reading and red for balanced reading
Cons
  • Big and chunky

The right dial for the driver.

Pleased with the dial. It is accurate, the shaft and needle move smoothly. I bought a cheap one a while back and it quickly got stuck or wouldn't come back when I measured a part in the spindle at 50rpm. I also like the foam it comes out of. It's easy to open and easy to store in my tool box. I just mark on the foam with a marker. In general I am satisfied with the purchase.

Pros
  • Silver steel gears, hardened, tempered and blued on journal; lapped on the teeth
Cons
  • No instructions

Value for money

As a journeyman locksmith with 40 years of experience, I know my way around indicators very well. As with most things in life, you get what you pay for. This is an average street value that performs very well considering its price. It's not on par with the Teclock, which I think would be the next step up in quality if that's what you're looking for, but at this price point the Fowler is hard to beat. Unscrew the 4 screws on the back (one by one) and fix them with Loctite. They will eventually…

Pros
  • Hardened stainless steel spindle rack and contact points for long life; Forged brass body, matt chrome plated; Massive brass gears
Cons
  • Questionable purchase for seniors
