I was able to remove the old broken tape before the new one arrived using a small paper clip to remove the locking pins. The new strap pieces matched the watch case perfectly, but the new pins that were included were slightly larger in diameter and would have required a lot of force to install. I just used old pins that fit easily into the strap holes. I don't know why some people had trouble assembling parts unless they were for clocks? I highly recommend this band replacement. This product does not fit my Garmin Forerunner 10 even though it is advertised as being made for my Garmin. The attachment point on my Garmin did not match the attachment point on the new strap. In addition, the pins for attaching the strap to the Garmin were too long. So if you have a Garmin Forerunner 10 and need to replace a broken strap, do not buy this replacement strap as it will not fit. Replacement strap ok. It's just a shame that Garmin designed it so badly in the first place. Items have a shelf life of approximately one year.
