Gates 31761 Fuel Tank Cap Review

I had to buy because tweaks ran in the middle of the night and steal fuel. Fits well, protects against tweakers. Happy shopping and goodbye.

I wanted two caps with the same keys for my F-250 but they told me they were out of stock. I didn't want to carry two different keys around with me.

The gas cap appears to be of good quality but I had to return it - the cap did not fit and did not fit my 1977 Ford F250 pickup. Even with factory tank and filler neck.

When you buy this gas cap they will ask what kind of truck you have. I entered the information correctly and figured that would mean I'm definitely getting what I need. Well I didn't get the right cap. I don't know if my gas tank isn't original now, but I assumed it wasn't. Just be sure if your tank and cap are factory or aftermarket.

****EDIT**** After my review below they have changed the pictures to show the plastic cover that actually comes with the kit. Never responded to, confirmed or contacted this review. So if anyone reads this in the future, don't be embarrassed, the original image had a metal gas cap. **Original** fits, but the picture shows a metal gas cap. If I had known it was plastic I would have ordered a different one. metal as shown. Feel a little cheated.

I needed a new gas cap and searched the internet for it. This was the cheapest I could find with a lock so I bought it. It fits well, but it only has two areas where it connects to your petrol tank valve, and it's annoying when one of them comes loose and the other is still attached because you have to keep reinserting it until both sides unlock are locked. If it bangs on one side while driving, most likely the check engine light is on!
