GE Retail Parts GERAN GXULQK Filter System Review

Our sink didn't have room for a dedicated filtered water spout, but it did have room for a filtered/unfiltered water toggle button. I have used other GE filter systems and have been happy with them. It took a while to install (you have to make sure you haven't mixed up any of the connectors) but the instructions were clear and there's a great YouTube video to walk you through the installation step by step. After work, it works well and filtered water comes out almost as quickly as unfiltered.

My problem with this new GE filter configuration under the sink isn't water filtration. The fact is that instead of a separate faucet, as in the old model, everything comes out of the main faucet for the sink. That means you have to manually switch to filtered water and then remember to turn off the filtered water. That's rubbing. I had an old version of GE's built in water filter and liked it (lasted about 4-5 years, used a lot by a family of 6). Absolutely inconvenient to use. Rotates the handle to connect to the cold water tap. No one forgets to turn off the filter when you turn off the water with the handle, not the filter. Waste filtering almost every time. Two steps to turn on and two steps to turn off (if you remember to turn the filter back to the off position). Product works well but as mentioned in several reviews the main plumbing is plastic. I installed it as is but would like to replace it first as recommended. Not because it's leaking, but to make sure personally that it won't crack or leak in the future. Bought this filter in April 2017. A block is leaking from a seam in the water manifold, which on closer inspection is a very poor quality joint where the upper and lower manifolds connect. It appears that the entire seam looks weak and may be leaking in many places. That this is not an isolated case can also be inferred from other reviews. Who would have known that what I hate about this system is the way it's packaged. Installation is simple and straightforward, but you don't get fittings to attach plastic parts to your existing supply valve and cold water line. Go to a hardware store and make sure you can easily get the correct size adapter, but the threads are wrong.
