My husband and I have been taking dance classes for a few months. As we got better and learned more difficult choreographies, my teacher recommended that I buy proper dance shoes. I've only worn them once so far and I really like them. I'm a size 9 and these shoes are true to size, but as I wear them to dance class I should have known to go at least a half size down as they stretch after you put them on. The shoes are made of felt, so you can dance in them very well, the sole is also very flexible. I'm a pretty standard eight in almost everything, I tend to lean wide rather than narrow, but the standard width usually suits me. I took the advice and went half a size to an 8 1/2 because both of my middle fingers are the same length as my thumb. I'm comfortable with the length left in the front of the shoe and feel more confident that I won't be dragging my toes across the bare floor while dancing. Pros: Fits true to size (take your usual size or 1/2 size larger if you intend to wear it for a long period of time to compensate for the inevitable swelling).
