For the price I was expecting cheap plastic or very thin metal. It's some sort of metal, much thicker and better quality than I was hoping for. The grommets that hold the cord on both the base of the lamp and the ceiling light are plastic and the inner grommets broke as soon as I unscrewed the grommet to adjust the length of the cord. I used a bracket for a custom pendant light that is mounted above my front door in a cathedral ceiling fixture. So I had to cut off a good length of the power cord, but I like that it's more than enough for almost any application. I ended up cutting it so give yourself plenty of slack as the jig basically ties the power cord together to hold it. I bought this as part of a DIY lighting project. I wanted to buy a fancy lamp for our living room, but we were deep in renovation and it just wasn't possible. I bought this pendant, a paper lampshade and a burlap cover. The light was meant to be a temporary seat holder, but I've really grown fond of it. For $35 for all of this I can't complain.
