I bought this because of the design. The spirals on each side penetrate deep into the cast iron grates and clean effectively. A tip is to use the brush while the grates are still warm and to dip the brush in the water frequently while cleaning. This works very well. This is exactly what I was looking for. It's amazing and incredibly fun to use. I've always been hesitant to use wire brushes as the last one I had was hardly used before showing signs of wear.
