Large Green Hutzler Garden Colander - Optimize Your Search Review

I bought the small version at my local hardware store and decided I wanted the large version too. I love it. When I pick tomatoes, basil, and now even chicken eggs, they all go in the basket. When I get back to the sink, I can still wash the tomatoes in the basket. My friend also likes it and wants to buy it too after seeing mine.

This is the perfect basket for picking greens and vegetables from my greenhouse. It is not difficult to wash everything right in the basket, since the basket is also a colander. It's strong enough to hold its shape but flexible enough to hold larger items. The handles are thoughtfully designed to make the basket easy to carry. I also have a smaller basket for picking berries and cherry tomatoes.

It could be more, but I don't use it for garden vegetables, I use it as a laundry basket. I needed something that I could carry with one hand, sit on the floor without picking up stickers, and be easy to clean. It ticks all of those boxes, but I have to wonder why the blue costs ten bucks more than the green. Green is ok although not what I really wanted but I don't have a color preference in my bathroom so it's not a big deal.

This little thing is great! I came back from the garden with my pockets bulging and my shirt pulled up, covered in grain, walking carefully, turning and stooping to avoid crushing or dropping anything. Sometimes I took a bowl with me, but it was bulky and uncomfortable to carry with one hand. Now I can go and pick whatever I want and not worry about my precious produce being crushed or dropped! Love that I can just throw it in the sink and rinse it all off too!

I wasn't happy with the hardness of the plastic on this expensive (for plastic) basket. When hung on a nail, a handle will fall off. But hey, it's not the end of the world. More importantly, in less than a year, cracks began to form on the plastic of the basket's handle and rim. I can't trust it to carry veggies now because the handle is about to break - a colander could have been used. I hate adding more plastic to the waste stream so much, but if this item was years old I might be able to…

Love LOVE these baskets. Bought 1 large and 2 smaller ones. They are very durable and I think they will last a long time. The handle is comfortable and even when they are completely filled to the brim with produce from my garden, nothing breaks when I clip both sides of the handle together. They are easy to rinse off or even rinse in the sink while the food is still there. I leave them outside, in my garden, on my pottery bench at harvest time. The large size holds a lot of vegetables. Larger than others I've looked at. I filled it with cabbage and sprinkled with green onions. See photo. It stands up to a mess - almost 2 messes if you grab it a little. Comfortable, light and flexible. Vegetables are very easy to wash in a colander filled with vegetables in a slightly larger container with water and plant detergent. Then set aside to drain. Great basket for cats. BPA-free, durable plastic makes it easy to carry your cat around. You can even wash the cat in the basket, although the cat may not agree.
